"But I have a few things against you: you have some there who
hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before
the sons of Israel, so that they might eat food sacrificed to idols and
practice sexual immorality. So also you have some who hold the teaching of the
Nicolaitans. Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against
them with the sword of my mouth."
(Revelation 2:14-16 ESV)
Extended Passage: Revelation 2:12-17
Pergamum is being rebuked in this
passage for not sticking to the words and their faith, and mixing different
religions in. They then decided to take some of the word, and leave other parts
out so they could practice sexual immorality and idolatry. Before we go and
start thinking ill of Pergamum, think about doing this in your own life. What
parts of the bible do you tend to “skip over”, or just “forget” sometimes?
Maybe it’s living with your boyfriend, overeating, getting drunk, etc.? This is
something that I struggle with. I challenge myself and you to go through and
read the passages that really convict you and pray about it. Don’t skip over or
justify your actions!
